Foundation
Our family is well accustomed to the selling, moving, buying, building process at this point. The home we are in the process of building is our 4th project in 5 years.
This isn’t a lifestyle for everyone, but we aren’t sentimental about a place, only that we are together. This build is a little different because we plan to be in this one until the girls are out of school. (The fam is growing a little weary)
With any project, beginning with a strong foundation (metaphorically and physically) is of the upmost importance. After the slab was poured and the framing was finished, Jason introduced the idea that we should write scripture on the studs. I have seen other families on social media do this, and the girls really got behind the idea. As a parent, it was so precious to see them thumb through their Bibles and see what versus they wanted to have in their rooms and throughout the house.
Jason and I hope that the girls physically covering our home in God’s word is an experience they can translate to their faith’s foundation. If you have the opportunity to do this with your family, I can’t recommend it enough!
On a practical note, one of my favorite tips during this stage in the building process is to take photos of where your electrical and plumbing is run in the walls. I take photos on my phone, label them by room, and save them to an album on my phone. This way, whenever I want to change something or heaven forbid we have a leak, I can give the electrician or plumber an exact location!
